Kon-Tiki
Review:
Kon-Tiki is an adventure movie, the story of the expedition of Mr Thor Heyerdahl across the Pacific Ocean along with the team.
Based on a true story, Thor with his friends, including photographer and engineers voyage to Polynesia, which at the time people believed they could not make it.
The existing theory was that initially people in Polynesia was migrated from Asia. As an adventurer and ethnographer, based on his research and evidence, he wanted to prove that people migrated from the east, and started his journey from Peru to Polynesia.
The adventurer was trying to prove South American people sailed to Polynesia 1,500 years ago on a raft. It was his theory to the people.
They started their voyage on a balsa wood raft just like people did 1,500 years ago. The journey was going to be dangerous as the raft is not as reliable as a modern boat. Although people 1.500 years ago travelled such a long distance, possibly Mr Thor could not make it or make it.
The open sea is full of risks. The weather could be unfavourable for them, sea animals could attack them and destroy the boat, I mean raft. They could get lost as they might be moving on the wrong route. The raft was not very reliable because it was made up of materials that were available 1,500 years ago and they travelled 8000 kilometres for more than 100 days.
As the journey was going on I was very curious about what would they do to handle the situation because they were on a voyage like the first settlers of Polynesia had, or what would happen to them. They risked their lives for the expedition. Surely, they were crazy.
There was a risk of sea animals as well. Sharks could attack them. Big sea animal, bigger than their raft, roaming around the raft, was the most beautiful scene in the movie. They also witnessed amazing sea creatures.
Mr Thor, who himself could not swim, begins the voyage with an engineer, two radio operators and war heroes and one who has been to sea before, on an unreliable boat called a raft to drift into the sunset.
The voyage proves that people are crazy and nothing is impossible for people who are crazy. You just need the courage to take risks to earn the greater reward.
