The Last King of Scotland

Director: Kevin Macdonald

Cast: Forest Whitaker, James McAvoy, Kerry Washington, Gillian Anderson

Synopsis:

A Scottish doctor, seeking adventure arrives in Uganda just after Idi Amin Coup and eventually got trapped in the situation.

Review:

Nicholas Garrigan comes to Uganda in the reign of General Idi Amin, who is very terrifying, cruel, dictator, for adventurous, and medical service.

Dr. Garrigan met the President for the treatment of his injured hand. Impressed by Dr. Garrigan, he hires him as his personal physician. Soon they become a good friend and President considered him as a most trusted advisor.

In Uganda, after the coup, Idi Amin was the most powerful person in the nation. There was political instability and he was surrounded by the enemies. He could not trust anybody.

Dr. Garrigan had faith in the President that he will solve every problem in the nation. But after his stupid decision and action, lots of violence and murder, he lost a good impression of him.
Dr. Garrigan was frustrated by the horrible situation in Uganda and wanted to leave the country, where Amin stopped him.

Finally, he escapes in a plane with a non-Israeli passenger which was hijacked.

The movie was based on Gile Foden's novel The Last King of Scotland which was much especially focused on the friendship and conflict between Idi Amin and Dr. Nicholas Garrigan.

The real Idi Amin was Army General, sports lover with a very tall height, terrifying and cruel dictator. During his reign, the nation was in hell like situation. He was able to influence his people to support him to establish political stability. And he convinced people that he is serving his country.

The actor Forest Whitaker gave an excellent performance as Idi Amin. He appears very dangerous and somewhat funny and terrifying. I was thrilled and enjoyed it a lot.
