God of Egypt

God of Egypt

Several mythologies have the common characteristics of god; most powerful, attractive, protector, etc. Also, sometimes a similar pattern of stories. The 2K16 movie God of Egypt has given make me feel the identical characteristics of gods with Hindu mythology. I am presenting you with the review of the movie with Hindu mythology.

Horus, the God of Air who is about to be crowned King, as the protagonist and Set, antagonist. There is always a feeling of peace, and prosperity when a good one rules the kingdom. Suddenly one day Set invades and overtakes the throne. The bad day of Egypt has started.

The system of the kingdom is changed, people are enslaved and gods are murdered who are against him(Set). This is like when demons rule heaven instead of a god to rule madly.

Horus starts the journey with  Bek, a thief who joins Horus to save his beloved wife Zaya, with whom he could not have started the journey without against Set.

The Sun, Horus’s Grandfather, who orbits with his flying boat protecting his creation from dark energy; a ghost. He has two sons Osiris, the god of life, and Set who was isolated in the desert to rule. He is neutral in the circumstances. He reminds me of the Sun who orbit in his way in a chariot with seven horses in Hindu mythology.

Everywhere chaos and destruction. Set capture and forfeit the power of the god of wisdom, golden wings of Nephthys, the heart of Osiris, The Sun, and the vision so that no one can deceive him to become the most powerful in the world.

Vishwakarma, who is the builder of heaven and serve the god. The similar character I found in the movie who is Ursha, a master builder.
In Hindu mythology also there are several stories that are similar to the Set’s story. One brother gets a good place to rule and another gets a dark place to rule. Become unhappy with what he has, angry at another brother. Once you get the chance to rule heaven enslave the god, people.

As always the good always wins and bad always lose, same with the Set’s destiny.
Set finally lose and killed by the Horus. He again becomes king and restores the peace and prosperity in Egypt.
He gives the legacy that one should judge from the good deed, kindness, love, compassion, and generosity and how we act in this life matters rather than gold or silver for after death life.
The thief at the ending is made the God of Impossible as a reward for making the Horus Journey Successful.
The movie is the fantasy action movie which reminded of gods in Hindu mythology and one of the best movie I have ever watched.
